This Sunday, Oldham Ladies faced off at home against Fleetwood Ladies – a formidable team who have won all of their league fixtures so far this season, by significant margins.
We knew the meeting would be a challenge, but the 15 players fielded were more than ready. With a good number of key players missing, the remaining Ladies stepped up to the fray with no complaint – special kudos to Kimi J and Libby Golland who took on the challenge of propping for the first time ever in their careers. Also massive congratulations to Kate Seville and Heather Collinson Taylor on stellar performances in only their 2nd ever game.
The game was physical and closely fought from the start, and Oldham Ladies’ Emma Procter, Miya Burke and Meg Farnhill and Meg Hobin all added tries to their tally.
Fleetwood fought on valiantly, matching us try for try, in a game that finally resulted in a 33-33 draw.
Forward of the match went to Miya Burke who dotted down our first try, a very impressive ¾ pitch dash, with just one boot on! Back of the match went to Meg Farnill for an impressive show of strength in both attack and defence; the lady is a tackling machine.
Opposition’s pick also went to Meg Farnhill, with Kate Seville being a close 2nd alternate for her strong tackling and great cover play.
