Two Teenagers Arrested For TFL Cyber Attack

Two teenagers have been charged as part of a National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into a cyber attack on Transport for London.

TfL suffered a major hack on 31 August last year, which investigators believe was carried out by members of the cyber-criminal group, Scattered Spider.

Thalha Jubair, 19, from east London, and Owen Flowers, 18, from Walsall in the West Midlands, were arrested at their home addresses on Tuesday last week by the NCA and City of London Police.

Both appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court and have been charged with conspiring together to commit unauthorised acts against TfL, under the Computer Misuse Act.

AI-assisted Cameras In West London

A west London borough has approved plans to introduce facial recognition and AI-assisted cameras into its CCTV infrastructure.

Hammersmith and Fulham Council's cabinet has approved more funding to "enhance" the local authority's camera network.

The borough already has more cameras per person than anywhere else in the UK, with more than 2,000 currently operating.

Campaign group Big Brother Watch said the use of facial recognition proposed by the council amounted to "an unprecedented level of mass surveillance and it marks the end of privacy in the public space as we know it".

Footage captured by residents in Whitley Wood shows two four-wheeled robots from parcel firm DPD crossing roads as part of a local trial.

The company is seeking permission from the borough council to operate one robot on a defined route, with safety concerns for pedestrians and motorists under review.

🛡️ Security Corner 🛡️

You’re probably used to keeping your phones, laptops or PCs up to date, so they’re safe to use.

Similarly, manufacturers of smart devices need to release updates that fix bugs or security issues in their products which - if ignored - could put your data or privacy at risk. Without these fixes, your device becomes easier to hack.

Your device is not secure if a criminal can guess the password used to access your smart device. This would allow them to log into your device, and use it to access your network, or to conduct cyber attacks.
