Denton Community Academy celebrates record-breaking GCSE results

There was celebration and pride across the corridors of Northern Education Trust Denton Community Academy this week as students, staff, and families came together to mark the school’s best ever GCSE results.

Students at the academy – one of 17 secondary schools sponsored by Northern Education Trust – delivered a significant improvement on last year’s outcomes, particularly in English and maths, with 67% achieving a standard pass in both subjects, a 5% increase from 2024. Even more impressively, 52% of students secured a strong pass in English and maths – an 8% improvement year-on-year.

This marks the second consecutive year of substantial progress at Denton Community Academy, further cementing the school’s growing reputation for academic excellence and student support.

Principal Donald Cumming expressed his pride and gratitude:  “I’m over the moon that the hard work and commitment of our students has been rewarded with these excellent results.  It makes their effort and dedication worthwhile and, importantly, they allow our students to make ambitious and exciting choices for their future.  The results are the culmination of years of hard work for our students, and I’m absolutely delighted with their achievements.  These are also the first outcomes for the new Denton Community Academy and are results that the community can be very proud of.

“I’d like to express my thanks to our staff for all that they do to enhance the life chances of our students – the results are testament to their support, passion and enthusiasm.  The results also reflect the strength of our partnership with parents, carers and families and I must thank them too.  What these results show clearly is the culture we have created at Denton Community Academy is one where all students can and will succeed.“

The school saw a number of standout individual performances, including:

  • Luca: 7 grade 9s, 1 grade 8, 1 grade 6

  • Mohammad: 6 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s

Dean Buckley, Associate Senior Executive Principal, praised the students and staff alike for their determination and resilience: “Students and staff are to be congratulated for these results, and should be very proud of what they’ve accomplished - we are certainly very proud of them all.  They have worked exceptionally hard to achieve at these levels, and the results reflect the dedication and commitment they have shown.  We’re delighted by these results, the second year of substantial improvement in outcomes at Denton Community Academy.  The results are testimony to the vision of the trust to enhance the life chances of the young people in our care.  My thanks and congratulations go to all students and staff for their incredible efforts.  My thanks also go to the parents, carers, governors and the trust board for their continued support – our students and staff couldn’t succeed without your help.”

Jane Wilson, Chief Executive of Northern Education Trust, also extended her congratulations, noting the continued improvement across the academy: “These results reflect the hard work and commitment of the staff and students within the academy.  The year on year improvement demonstrates the ongoing quality of education provided by the academy, and the exceptional desire of the students to succeed.  We aim to enhance the life chances of the children and young people in our care, and these results are the culmination of their incredible efforts and dedication, allowing them to progress to the next stage of their lives with confidence in their abilities to succeed.  We are extremely proud of our students and wish them every success with their futures.”
