Seasonal specials in store at The Vale

The Vale, Mossley

A big birthday bash, a double dose of Afro-jazz, and a hearty helping of Beans on Toast are all on the menu this autumn and winter at The Vale arts centre in Mossley.

The vibrant community hub, based at Vale Mill on Micklehurst Road, has unveiled its new seasonal line-up, promising a mix of music, dance and festive cheer to keep Tameside entertained right through to Christmas.

The fun begins with The Vale’s 4th birthday party on Saturday 11 October 2025. Taking centre stage will be the explosive rhythms of Juba do Leão, who celebrate their own 20th anniversary this year. With pounding bass drums, sharp snare lines and the infectious dances of north eastern Brazil, they’re guaranteed to fill the dancefloor.

The celebrations continue into the night with the One Tree Island DJs, who bring their “beats without borders” to Mossley until midnight. Expect a globe-spanning soundtrack of bass-heavy grooves from seasoned selectors with over three decades’ experience.

Just two weeks later, on Saturday 25 October, audiences are in for a night of uplifting Afrobeat and dub-infused jazz as Soothsayers and Ubunye share the bill.

South London collective Soothsayers are renowned for blending Afrobeat and reggae rhythms with a lyrical message and an irresistible groove. They’re joined by award-winning Afro-jazz ensemble Ubunye, led by two powerful vocalists from South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal region. Fresh from winning Best UK Jazz Ensemble at the 2023 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, the group’s fusion of contemporary jazz, Afro-pop and traditional Zulu music has been winning fans nationwide.

Folk innovators The Unthanks make a much-anticipated stop at The Vale as part of their 20th anniversary tour on Saturday 15 November. Tickets for the show sold out within hours, but a waiting list remains open for hopeful fans.

Later in the month, on Saturday 22 November, travelling troubadour Beans on Toast returns to Mossley. Known for his warm, witty and heartfelt songs, Beans is equal parts entertainer, poet and storyteller – delivering a set that mixes crowd favourites with sharp new reflections on modern life.

The season rounds off in festive style on Friday 12 December, when the Monster Ceilidh Band return with their high-energy Christmas show. Famed for fusing traditional ceilidh with pulsing electro-folk, their raucous seasonal special promises to get audiences spinning into the holidays.

A limited number of “donate what you feel” tickets are available for every event, ensuring accessibility for all.

The Vale is located at Unit 2, Vale Mill, Micklehurst Road, Mossley, Tameside, OL5 9JL. Tickets can be booked via The Vale website or by calling 01457 238 089.
