Boundary changes at New Mills property rejected

Proposals to build a one-metre-high fence on top of an existing stone boundary wall at a property in New Mills have been rejected on two grounds by planners.

The application was for the removal of an ivy hedge that is causing damage at Oak Beams on Marsh Lane.

However, the plan to replace the hedge with a fence has been turned down by planners as the length and overall height, when combined with the existing stone wall, would have a detrimental impact on highway safety as visibility for vehicles leaving the site would be impeded.

The scale of the fence and wall due to its design, height, and choice of materials, would have a significant harmful impact on the character and appearance of the surrounding area.
