Buxton golfers raise thousands for terminally ill

Over eighty golfers in Buxton are celebrating after raising over seven thousand pounds for the Blythe House Hospice.

21 teams gathered at the Buxton and High Peak Golf Club on Friday (16th May) for a Charity Golf Day to raise funds for the hospice, which provides care to terminally ill patients across the High Peak. 

Alongside golfing, the event featured a bottle tombola and a variety of on-course games, as well as a visit from the hospice mascot, Blythe Bear.

With the Blythe House Hospice now costing over £2.3 million to run each year, over 70% of the hospice's funding comes from community donations and fundraising events - in all, the Friday Charity Golf Day raised £7,632. 

"We were incredibly fortunate with the weather, which added to the fantastic atmosphere throughout the day," said Rachael Gee, fundraising and events coordinator at Blythe House.

"It was a real pleasure to welcome so many teams to the event – more than 80 golfers all coming together to support a cause close to their hearts.

"We’re hugely grateful to our headline sponsor, Pak Pro of Whaley Bridge, for their continued support of the hospice, and to Buxton and High Peak Golf Club for hosting the event so generously for the past seven years.

"Thanks also to Buxton Woodworks, our ball sponsor, as well as all our brilliant tee sponsors, our wonderful volunteers, and of course, every single player who made the day such a tremendous success."

The Blythe House Hospice is now encouraging other golfers across Derbyshire to take another swing for the charity, and have announced two more charity golf days in Chapel-en-le-Frith and Sickleholme this August.
