Cadets support safety drive

Volunteer Police Cadets in Glossop set out last week to help raise awareness of road safety issues.

They made road safety the focus of their work as part of the national drive.

The group set up an information stand during the town’s Christmas lights switch-on, speaking with shoppers at Tesco and handing out leaflets.

PCSO Alan Nield, who coordinates Derbyshire Constabulary's police cadet unit in Glossop, said: "The activities were all designed to help support and promote national road safety week. This year had the theme of Step up for Safe Streets, which is all about solutions that allow us all to get around in safe and healthy ways, every day.

“Road safety concerns are often raised by people in Glossop, and I know most people will be either a driver or a passenger. We hope that doing our bit to help raise awareness of the initiative will encourage people to do their bit for a safe and healthy future for all.”

Road Safety Week is coordinated annually by Brake, the road safety charity, and aims to inspire thousands of schools, organisations and communities to take action on road safety and promote life-saving messages during the week and beyond.
