Concert to raise funds for Chernobyl Children's Project

A concert being held in Glossop will be raising funds for the Chernobyl Children's Project.

Entitled 'Under the Greenwood Tree’ the performance will feature soprano Adrienne Pyne singing songs by Schumann and Gurney, and pianist Stephanie Leung playing pieces by Chopin and Grieg.

To be held at Glossop Parish Church at 4pm on Sunday 13 February, the concert will be a celebration of Nature, Music and Love and include a short update from Executive Director Linda Walker about the charity's current work.

Seating will be socially distanced, and Afternoon Tea will be provided for those who would like to stay. Admission is free, with donations to Chernobyl Children's Project.

For the last 25 years, the charity has welcomed children in remission from cancer to Glossopdale to enjoy recuperative holidays.

Although Covid means the holidays can’t take place, the charity is continuing to support other initiatives in Belarus.

''We can't invite children over at the moment,” said local group co-ordinator Helena Gannon, “but the charity still has many projects in Belarus supporting children with cancer or with disabilities.

“So, we continue to raise funds to support children having treatment in the cancer hospital in Minsk.”

The concert takes place on Sunday 13 at 4pm at Glossop Parish Church.
