As the nation fell silent on Armistice Day to honour our Armed Forces past and present, the Mayor of High Peak has thanked local communities for remembering at home.
Restrictions in place to halt the spread of Covid meant ceremonies at cenotaphs and memorials across the Borough looked very different this year as people paid tribute at home.
Small civic ceremonies were held at memorials featuring a limited number of representatives who laid wreaths to pay respects on behalf of the whole Borough.
Mayor Councillor Ed Kelly said: “We know that people across the High Peak will have missed being able to participate in the usual services and ceremonies of remembrance this year and we thank everyone for their continued commitment to following the rules and helping to stop the spread of Covid.
“We worked closely with our partners, the churches and local branches of the Royal British Legion to ensure that, collectively, we were able to honour the service and sacrifice of our service personnel and keep each other safe at the same time.
“I know that as we mark Armistice Day we can rely on the strength and resilience of our communities who will, once again, do the right thing and pay their tributes at home.”
