Diseased trees in Glossop have been axed

High Peak Borough Council's fight against a tree disease saw contractors in Glossop tackling the latest problem area.

Contractors cut down 20 trees, suffering from the ash dieback fungus, in Philip Howard Road and Harehills Park.

They were just some of the 100 diseased ash trees in the High Peak axed by the council during the last 12 months.

Three weeks ago we reported that two mature ash trees in Norfolk Square were both victims of the disease which is sweeping Europe.

The borough council, which closed Philip Howard Road while the trees were chopped down, has promised to plant replacements.
