Drivers' speed monitored on busy Little Hayfield road

Five drivers will receive letters of advice from police about speeding, following a community speed watch event in Little Hayfield.

Volunteers gave up their time to clock motorists' speed on the busy A624, close to The Lantern Pike Inn, between 2pm and 3pm on Tuesday afternoon (24 May).

The speed limit on that stretch of road is 30 miles per hour.

During the hour, 674 vehicles passed the team in both directions and five were caught driving above the speed limit.

Glossop Police Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Well done to the three volunteers who attended and completed the event.

"Remember the volunteers on the team are members of your community giving up their time to try and make our roads safer.

"Contrary to the police's many remits, Speedwatch has only one purpose: to address the problem of speeding in local areas by educational means."
