Glossopdale Fairtrade Group is celebrating 25 years since Fairtrade certified products – coffee, tea, and chocolate – were first launched in the UK.
The town has been recognised as a beacon of Fairtrade since 2010.
Campaigners organise competitions each year to inspire young people to learn about Fairtrade and host tasting events where products can be sampled.
Fairtrade guarantees a fair price for their produce and a premium to invest in schools, health clinics, water supplies and environmental protection.
Chairman Chris Nudds said: “Fairtrade is the most visual ethical label in the UK.
“Over the years we’ve received fantastic support from business leaders and shopkeepers as well as community groups, churches, and High Peak councillors.
“More than half the people in a local poll told us that they buy Fairtrade items every week and a further one in four do so at least once a month.
“Such support lifts communities across the developing world out of poverty and provides life-changing opportunities for their children.”
To mark the 25th anniversary of Fairtrade, the Glossopdale group is holding a coffee morning from 10am to noon on Saturday, October 12 at Bradbury House, Market Street.
Cllr Ed Kelly is supporting the event in his capacity as High Peak Mayor.
Light refreshments will be served and there will be Fairtrade craft and cake stalls, tombola, raffle, and bric-a-brac.
