Fundraiser for Cadets overseas expedition

Three army cadets from Glossop are among a group set to travel to Cyprus later this year for an oversees expedition.

The Glossop Detachment are now raising funds to support the Derbyshire Army Cadet Force's October expedition for the 48 young people who are all aged 12 – 18 who were selected to go.

Cadets who applied had to attend a selection weekend in January which resulted in success for Cadets L/cpl Leo Harvey, L/cpl Rowan Gerrard and L/cpl Tom Godfrey who are thrilled to have been chosen.

Detachment Commander for Glossop, Sgt Elaine Hallworth, said: “This is a lifetime opportunity for these young people to experience activities that we cannot provide in the UK.

“The range of activities will include guided training exercises with the regular army, Adventurous training, and cultural visits.

“The money we hope to raise will go towards making this opportunity affordable for the Cadets, so please support us to give these young people this amazing experience.”

As part of their fundraising efforts, Glossop Army Cadets are holding a Coffee Morning on Saturday 19 March at Bradbury Community House on Market Street from 9.30am to 11.30am.

There will be lots of great raffle prizes, tombola, baked cakes, Toys, books, bric-a-brac and refreshments served. The entrance fee is £1.

The event will also be a chance for people to chat with Cadets and Adult Volunteers about what they do as one of the largest National Youth organisations and what opportunities there are for both Cadets and Adults to go further with the Army Cadet Force.

If you would like to support the cadets fundraising efforts donations can made at their JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/derbyshire-armycadetforce

The Glossop Detachment parades every Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm.
