Gaming for Good: Students turn play into positive action

A new youth-led initiative from Adaptive Gaming Youth & Community CIC is empowering students at St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy.

The students are learning how to plan and deliver their own community gaming event, combining teamwork, creativity and digital skills for social good.

Following an assembly presented to more than 240 pupils across Years 8 and 9, twenty students will now be selected to form the Event Planning Team. Together they will design and host a community gaming day aimed at raising funds for online safety workshops in local primary schools.

“We wanted to show young people that gaming can be more than entertainment - it can connect people, develop skills and create real community impact” said Kaine Williams, Director of Adaptive Gaming Youth & Community CIC. “This project gives students ownership from the very beginning - they’ll learn planning, communication and leadership while doing something they love.”

The project, part of Adaptive Gaming’s wider ‘Gaming for Good’ initiative, uses gaming and digital media to promote inclusion, wellbeing and digital confidence. The sessions will also help improve understanding of safe and responsible gaming among children and families.

Assistant Headteacher Ms. Neves from St Philip Howard CVA said: “We are very excited and grateful to Adaptive Gaming for offering this opportunity to our students. It is a fantastic chance for them to develop their leadership skills, work in partnership with others locally, and make a positive contribution to the wider community.”

Adaptive Gaming Youth & Community CIC, a not-for-profit organisation, works regionally across Northwest England, supporting young people - including those who are disadvantaged, neurodiverse, or have additional needs - through gaming-based education, community projects and wellbeing initiatives.

Their initiatives include:

• Stealth Fitness: gaming-based physical activity sessions promoting mental and physical wellbeing.

• Digital Creators Lab: teaching young people digital literacy, content creation, and safe online practice.

• Gaming for Good: community gaming sessions reducing isolation, improving connections, and building skills.

• Student-Led Projects: empowering pupils to design, plan, and deliver social impact events in their schools.
