Getting to grips with heart start machine

Customers at a Hadfield pub know how to save lives - now all they need is a defibrillator to do it.

Fifteen regulars at the Pear Tree, on Hadfield Road, spent part of last Sunday learning resuscitation techniques.

With the help of two paramedics - and  a dummy - they were taught how to give CPR, which will be perfect when licensees Tina and Steve McGuinness and their customers manage to get enough cash to buy the equipment.

Tina said: “So far we have raised £1,100, the cabinet alone costs £600. Most of the money came from a barbecue on the bank holiday.

“We are raising money all the time, £70 extra came in from selling a football card at the training day,” she commented.

Tina was the winner, but generously donated her winnings to the fund.

Everyone at the Pear Tree is looking forward to having the defib in its cabinet on the outside wall - ready for any emergency.

Tina, who thanked paramedics Angela and Nick for their training, said: “We hope (the defibrillator) is never needed, but it’s good to know it is there if it is.”

Steve and Tina are not sure when the life-saving kit will be installed.

They are currently getting quotes and raising money to get it.

Then it will have to be registered with the North West Ambulance Service and allocated a special code so anyone needing help can receive it immediately.
