Glossop Jog return raises thousands for charity

The return of Glossop Jog saw 240 runners take on a new course on Sunday morning as they helped raise thousands of pounds for charity.

It was a welcome return for the popular Glossop Rotary Club event that couldn’t be held last year due to Covid.

Barrie Powney, Jog organiser/co-ordinator said: “It was a super morning, and the weather was nice. We had a good turnout, with 240 runners.”

The family-friendly event saw mums, dads and children taking part in the jog to see how many laps they could complete in an hour.

Most recently the event was held at the cricket club but with the site being used by the health service a suitable alternative was needed. They found it in the form of the sports ground on Pike’s Lane, which is leased to the Rugby Club.

This year Barrie and his team also had less time to prepare the event as it usually starts in March but the situation was still unclear at that point.

“Because of Covid we had no idea if we were going to put it on until June when we took the decision,” explained Barrie, who had been involved with the event since 1998.

“It was a good team effort, and we were all very pleased.”

It is not yet known how much the event will have raised for local and international charities, but it is estimated to be in the region of £5,000. A final figure will be available at the end of November when all the money raised has been collected in.
