Glossop musician on song to raise charity cash

A Glossop musician has had a chart-topping single and orchestrated the BBC's Children In Need's 'You Are Not Alone' all in just a few days.

Daniel Whibley’s efforts are also helping to raise a substantial amount for dementia  charities.

Daniel, a member of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, played a major part  in the production of Paul Harvey’s ‘Four Notes’ which recently went viral.

Paul, 80, a composer and pianist, suffers from dementia. He composed a piece of music using four notes chosen by son Nick.

He explained that it was an old party trick of his father’s who would ask friends to come up with six random notes which his father would create into a tune.

Nick filmed his father playing the composition at the piano, describing the music as touching.

Daniel was quick to involve some of his musician colleagues and friends at the BBC Philharmonic.

They then recorded items to go with Paul’s tune at their homes and sent it to Daniel who orchestrated it.

It was recorded and soon became the most downloaded single in the UK since the start of November, reaching number one in the official charts.

It also rapidly reached number one in the weekly Official Scala Radio Singles Chart. ‘Four Notes: Paul’s Tune’ has also been included in the ‘That’s What I Call Music 107 Album.’
