Glossop Peace Group hold vigil for Hiroshima

This Tuesday, August 6th, is the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

On Saturday members of Glossop Peace Group will be out in Norfolk Square remembering all those who died in Hiroshima, or in Nagasaki three days later.

These bombs which flattened cities and killed around 200,000 people, were tiny compared to many of the nuclear weapons in existence today.

Joy Hallsworth, a founder member of the group commented: "It is vital that urgent steps are taken to move us away from the threat of nuclear war. We should reject US nuclear bombs being stationed in our country and cancel Trident missiles and submarines. We would like to see the UK join the Nuclear Ban Treaty which has now been signed by the leaders of over half the world's nation states"
