Grand unveiling at Roughfields put on hold

Covid-19 has led to the postponement of an opening ceremony in Hadfield.

Local people helped to raise funding to install picnic benches on Roughfields – a green area between Hadfield and Padfield Main Road.

Residents are currently campaigning to save the land from a housing development.

Halina Billingham, from the Save Roughfields campaign, said: "We regret that, due to several guests testing positive with Covid, and local cases rising rapidly, the grand opening of the picnic benches has been postponed.

"The Committee considered the risks to others and the pressure on our already over burdened NHS and we did not feel we could go ahead under these circumstances.”

She added: "Thank you to everyone who has been involved in helping us to organise the celebration. This is not a cancellation just a postponement, in the meantime the tables are there for you and your families to enjoy.”
