Glossop cyclist Ben Watson came agonisingly close to a podium position in yesterday’s Men’s C3 time trial, missing out on a Paralympic medal by just 1.55 seconds.
The 35-year-old was pipped to the bronze by Germany’s Matthias Schindler, who finished the 28.3km race with a time of 39 minutes and 21.35 seconds.
Elsewhere, Spain's Eduardo Santas Asensio picked up the silver, while Frenchman Thomas Peyroton Dartet came away with the gold.
Following the race, Watson told his Instagram followers, “For now, I’m pretty gutted, but I was beaten by better riders on the day and gave everything I could.”
Despite the disappointment, Watson still has another shot at returning home with a medal- he races in the Men’s C3 Road Race on Saturday morning, where he will look to defend his title, having won gold in the same race at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
