Records have been broken as the heatwave has made the High Peak hotter than ever.
Temperatures in Buxton reached 34.3 degrees on Monday, the highest ever recorded, and today (Tuesday) that record is expected to be broken as it is expected be even hotter.
Trains services have been cancelled from Glossop and Hadfield to Manchester for a second day and passengers elsewhere on the network advised not to travel.
Problems have been reported on a number of roads that were recently surface dressed as the tar is reportedly ‘melting’.
The highways team at Derbyshire County Council have been out to several locations to spread a mix of sand to soak up any excess bitumen leaking out from the road surface and to help bind it back together.
Anyone who spots a road surface in danger of melting, is asked to contact DCC online here.
Keeping cool is the main aim particularly the elderly and very young.
The efforts by staff at Hadfield Nursery School have been featuring on the BBC news website. Ice pops and gallons of water are helping keep the youngsters cool, with story time and lots of water activities outside in the shade.
In Chapel-en-le-Frith St Thomas Becket Church is open again today from 11am to 3pm to provide a cool space for people to escape the heat. Refreshments will also be available.
