The recent ‘International Day of Forests’, saw members of High Peak Green New Deal calling for an end to deforestation.
The group are supporting Friends of the Earth's ‘Planet Over Profit’ campaign, which calls for a new law to hold big business to account for exploitation of people and the planet in their overseas supply chains.
Deforestation can be caused by logging for timber or clearing land to grow products such as palm oil and soy, and the group state that through its import of these products, the UK is responsible for rainforest destruction around the world.
Cath Hughes from the group said "We need to make companies accountable for the damage they cause in their supply chains, with a new UK Business, Human Rights and Environment Act".
