How libraries in the High Peak are currently operating

Libraries in the High Peak are now only open for limited purposes following the imposition of Tier 4 coronavirus restrictions.

This applies to the borough's eight libraries, which are located in: 

• Glossop (Talbot Road)
• Gamesley (Grindleford Grove) 
• Hadfield (Station Road)
• Chapel-en-le-Frith (Market Square) 
• Hayfield (Kinder Road)
• Buxton (Kents Bank Road)
• New Mills (Hall Street)
• Whaley Bridge (Market Street)

In line with current government guidance, libraries are open for a book and borrow service, and people can still reserve books from other libraries. 

There are currently no plans to provide access to public PCs. 

For borrowing books, people will be asked to do the following: 

• Ring or email the library you want to collect books from to make an appointment. You'll be given a date and time for a collection slot. If you email, you should include a phone number so you can be called back to arrange a time. The contact details and opening hours for your local library can be found by clicking here. 
   
• Provide the name and library card number for each person who wants to borrow books, plus a contact phone number.
   
• Give information on the type of books you would like – like genre, examples of authors, format, or you can opt for a ‘lucky dip’. There's a maximum of 10 items per person for each collection slot.
   
• Bring library cards or card numbers for all the people you are collecting for, when visiting for your pre-booked slot.
   
• Bring your own bags.

The free e-lending and online service, as well as the home library service, are still available. 

The two mobile libraries will also continue to offer a Book and Borrow service.

Derbyshire County Council say all aspects of library services will be kept under review and it will continue to monitor information issued by the government. 

All books and other items currently on loan will be automatically renewed until 30 January 2021 and won't incur any overdue charges.

Like most of England, the High Peak and all of Derbyshire is now under Tier 4 - the toughest current level of coronavirus restrictions - which means people should only leave home for specific purposes, work from home if they can, should not travel unless necessary and should only meet with their household or one other person in a public outdoor place.
