Local jobs at risk as company plans shutdown

Kingspan Technical Insulation, Glossop Brook Road

Forty-eight local jobs are under threat following news that Kingspan Technical Insulation (KTI) plans to close its Glossop manufacturing facility.

The Glossop Chronicle was alerted by a member of the public to the possible closure. Upon contacting Kingspan’s head office, a company spokesperson provided the following statement:

“Kingspan Technical Insulation (KTI) recently invested £15m in a Continuous Pipe Lamination machine, in Basildon, Essex, UK where we had a suitable site large enough to accommodate the expansion. KTI Glossop was considered but did not have the required space for the machine.

However, due to current macro-economic headwinds, it becomes necessary to optimise our cost base accordingly. After a comprehensive review, we have taken the difficult decision to consolidate our operations in Essex and propose the closure of our manufacturing facility in Glossop.

A redundancy consultation process with our Glossop-based operational employees is underway and we cannot comment any further until the consultation has ended. This decision has not been made lightly and follows a careful assessment of our current needs and our long-term goals.”

The Kingspan Glossop branch has operated from its current site opposite Tesco on Glossop Brook Road since 2005. Previous rounds of redundancies have already affected local staff in recent years.

Kingspan Group, founded in 1965, is a global building materials company. It currently operates in 80 countries, employing 22,000 people across 212 sites.
