Man found with drugs and knife is behind bars

A High Peak man who was found with a 'large quantity' of Class A drugs and a knife in his possession has been jailed.

After receiving a tip-off from a member of the public, police arrested Anthony Edgerton on Lightwood Road in Buxton.

The 42-year-old was charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply and having a bladed or sharply pointed article in a public place, following a joint operation by Buxton Response and Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Edgerton, of Eagle Parade, Buxton, appeared at Derby Crown Court, where he was sentenced to three years and four months in prison.

The officer in the case hopes it will serve as a warning to other criminals.

PC Simon Lomas said: "The incident involving Mr Edgerton is an example of how we are dedicated to ensuring our communities are kept safe. Removing these types of drugs and weapons from Buxton is another step forward in safeguarding the High Peak from organised criminal activity.

"Drugs have a devastating impact on individual lives along with being a blight on our communities. We will continue to work hard to disrupt and dismantle this activity in Buxton and we are pleased to see the courts have taken action against this individual.

"We hope it sends a clear message that, in the High Peak, if you wish to commit crime we will investigate the matter robustly and look to prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law in order to safeguard everyone from these types of offences."
