Murder on the stage at Glossop theatre

Expect plenty of suspense and a whole lot of fun at Partington Players' next production.

It’s ‘Murder on the Nile’, the Glossop company’s version of the stage play based on Agatha Christie’s ‘Death on the Nile’, which begins a six performance run on Monday 8 May.

There’s a few familiar names in the cast, but four of the actors are making their Partington debut and two are appearing for only the second time.

The Henry Street company’s David Wilson says the production is practically sold out for the Friday and Saturday, but tickets are available for the first four nights.

Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile appeared in book form in 1937, since then a number of film and television versions have been made. By the early ‘40s, Christie became enamoured with the theatre and decided to adapt her book into a stage play, which was at one time entitled Hidden Horizons, but subsequently became Murder on the Nile.

All the action takes place in the Observation Lounge of a Nile paddle steamer and director Andrew Wilson decided to set it in the Art Deco period to allow the Partington wardrobe department to dazzle the audience with period costumes.

“We are sure that the cast of 10, which includes actors new to Partington audiences as well as some old hands, will give the audience plenty to think about and a chance to guess ‘whodunnit’. Without giving too much away, expect more than one pistol shot before the end!”
