Nostalgia: Youngsters on parade in Hadfield

A main road from Woolley Bridge to Hadfield became river of colour for a short time 75 years ago as more than 300 young people marched to a youth service in St Andrew’s Church.

Members of the local Church Lads and Church Girls Brigades and Guides and  Brownies, in their black, blue and brown uniforms, marched behind the Chester battalion’s band from Mill End and up Station Road to the church for a united service.

It was the first big procession since the end of the Second World War and there was a huge flag-waving crowd to cheer the youngsters on their way.
