Petition submitted calling for better access to Chinley train station

Chinley train station.

A petition calling for step-free access at Chinley train station has been presented to the House of Commons.

High Peak MP Robert Largan is supporting long-standing efforts by campaigners to improve access.

In June last year, Network Rail’s Design Delivery team completed a viability survey of the station and proposed three different step-free access options.

A bid for funding is being made by Chinley and Buxworth Transport Group to the Department for Transport’s Access for All fund designed to enable obstacle free, accessible routes to and between platforms.

The MP said: “We are finally moving closer to positive change, with a very strong bid to the Access for All fund by the Chinley and Buxworth Transport Group.

“I also welcome warmly Northern Rail’s intention to support a bid for funding.”

Now the petition has been presented the Department for Transport will issue a formal response.
