Plans for new community sports complex

Plans by Glossop North End Juniors which would give the town one of its most ambitious ever sports complexes have been approved by councillors.

High Peak Development Control Committee, who met on Monday, were recommended to grant approval.

The club have been granted permission to totally redevelop its Cemetery Road headquarters.

They tweeted to confirm the news on Monday afternoon:

Proposed is a sporting/community facility comprising of a new clubhouse, a full size artificial pitch, two grass pitches, improved parking and better vehicular access.

Since its birth in 1989, the club has grown to operate 35 teams with more than 450 children now associated with the club. They range from Saturday school programmes up to the U21s and includes both male and female teams.

The proposals have the backing of the general Glossopdale community who have supported huge fund raising by the club by filling a football pitch at Cemetery Road with pennies.

Support has also come from local, regional and national organisations.

Funding to help the club live its dream has also come from a variety of sources.

The current clubhouse is now set to be replaced with a modern single-storey building.

Included would be four changing rooms for players, two for match officials, kitchen, club room and toilets.

There will also be 104 parking spaces, plus a further 30 for cycles.

These will be to cater for the kind of demand a successful planning application will bring.

Damien Greenhalgh, deputy leader of High Peak Borough Council and Executive councillor for regeneration, tourism and leisure, tweeted: "I'm delighted to hear that Glossop Juniors' ambitious plan to improve the sports and physical activity offer in Glossopdale has cleared its planning hurdle."
