Derbyshire Police have issued a warning after receiving reports of scams on social media.
The force says local Facebook groups are being targeted by scammers who are posing as trying to help vulnerable people, injured animals or children.
They add that fraudsters are targeting these groups to appeal to people's kind community spirit to help those in need.
Police are advising local residents to do the following before acting on a social media post:
View the person's profile and learn more about the person posting
Protect your personal information and don't share it on social media
Check other sources, other than Facebook or whichever social media platform, for information
Anyone who sees a suspicious post is asked to report it to the relevant social media platform, as well as the police by calling 101 or reporting it online at https://www.derbyshire.police.uk
