Police operation targeting motorists

Last year fifteen motorcycle riders lost their lives in collisions in Derbyshire.

As part of a dedicated policing operation to keep riders safe, fifteen motorcyclists have been spoken to by Derbyshire Police Officers about their speed.

A further ten are being prosecuted for speeding offences after extra targeted patrols were carried out over the last bank holiday weekend.

Speed is a significant factor in collisions and also has an impact on how quickly riders can react, and so officers are urging people to ride safely within the limits and be aware of the conditions.

Last year, fifteen riders lost their lives in collisions in Derbyshire, with five dying in two separate collisions on a single day in August.

The current Police operation has been launched to help target dangerous riding and keep people safe, as bikers from across the country head to Derbyshire to enjoy the stunning scenery and popular motorcycling routes.

So far during the operation, officers have covered over 2,000 miles and spoken to hundreds of bikers across the county.
