Following their annual charity walk in July, the Glossop-based Powsers Mountaineering Club recently presented a cheque to Adam from Willow Wood Hospice at the Crown Inn in Glossop.
At the presentation Adam gave a brief overview of the hospice’s work and thanked everyone for their generosity. Including Gift Aid, the Powsers raised £2,010 this year for the charity.
Sixteen walkers set out from Edale, scrambling up Grindsbrook and then following the edges to Crowden Tower before crossing the Kinder plateau to Kinder Downfall. They continued on over Mill Hill and Brownhill, to finish at Manor Park in Glossop. The day began sunny with a chilly westerly wind before rain arrived later.
Club President John Hughes said: “The club has held an annual charity walk for more than 40 years. This year, we are proud to have raised funds and awareness for Willow Wood, a tremendous local charity. We previously supported the hospice in 2003 and 2013. Over the years several members and friends have received excellent care from Willow Wood, so the decision to choose it again as this year’s beneficiary was unanimous.”
“A huge thank you to everyone who took part, sponsored us or helped with the event. Our club goes hill walking every Sunday and organises many trips to mountain areas across the UK and abroad. New members are always welcome.”
