Restrictions on A57 Snake Pass to stay

A sign on the approach to the Snake Pass from the top of Sheffield Road in Glossop.

Weight limit restrictions and temporary traffic lights put in place after storms damaged stretches of the A57 Snake Pass are expected to be in place for some time to come.

There are no timescales yet in place as to when the full extent of the work will be known or when repairs will be carried out.

A Derbyshire County Council spokesperson told the Glossop Chronicle this week: “On Snake Pass later this year, we will carry out a full ground investigation at the Alport landslip.

“While this is being carried out, the weight limit restrictions will remain in place.”

It was back in February that Storm Eunice and then Storm Franklin battered the country and on the Snake Pass, torrential rain led to several sections of road to slip. The worst stretch saw the verge drop by two metres.

The road was completely closed for several weeks before reopening with a 7.5 tonne weight limit, and temporary lights.
