St Philip Howard pupil recognised with prestigious award

HONOUR: Caitlin pictured with head teacher Louisa Morris and deputy head teacher Mike Kays.

A dedicated Year 11 pupil has been recognised for her magnificent efforts throughout her time at St Philip Howard Catholic Voluntary Academy with a prestigious award.

The Glossop-based secondary school is part of the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi-Academy Trust, which consists of 25 Catholic Voluntary Academies in the Diocese of Nottingham.

For the St Ralph Sherwin Pupil Award for the 2020-21 academic year, the school had to choose one student who does their best every single day and acts like their patron St Ralph Sherwin.

Head teacher Louisa Morris and staff reviewed the list of characteristics of St Ralph Sherwin - which are determination, service, fortitude, perseverance, kindness and community focused - and chose Caitlin Bowler as the pupil whom they felt best lives out these characteristics on a daily basis.

Caitlin's mum said the whole family are very proud of her and what she has achieved.

Kerrie Cox, assistant head teacher, praised 16-year-old Caitlin, from Glossop, for her "excellent commitment" and said she was "a hugely deserving winner" of the award.

"Caitlin has shown excellent commitment to developing the Catholic ethos at Team SPH, playing key roles in both The Gratitude Club and The Chaplaincy Team," she commented.

"Throughout her five years at St Philip Howard, she has led a number of charity events and taken part in collective worship, leading liturgies and the SPH Weekly Reflection.

"Caitlin has been an altar server right from the beginning of her time at school and has served in many school and parish masses.

"In her role as Head Girl, Caitlin modelled the positive ethos of the school and demonstrated commitment and positive effort in each and every event she took part in.

"Caitlin has whole-heartedly contributed to all aspects of school life and is a hugely deserving winner of this award!"
