Police are appealing for witnesses following reports of an attempted robbery in Hadfield on Wednesday (14 December).

It's believed it happened at around 4.50pm, on the footpath which runs along the River Etherow, and connects Woolley Bridge Road, near to the Pear Tree pub, and Brookfield.

A man has allegedly approached a woman and tried to grab her bag. The victim has then reported to have slipped on the ice, shouted and kicked out at the man.

The man is believed to have then made off towards Brookfield and may have appeared in some discomfort following the incident.

He is described as being white and with blue eyes, wearing a dark coloured face covering or snood. The victim also reports he had a distinctive smell of oil.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnesses the incident or have any information which could help with enquiries.
