OLDHAM: Changes to polling districts

It’s just over a week until residents of Oldham will be called to the polling stations to choose a candidate to represent them at council. But where will you be voting? 

Because of local and national changes, some polling districts and stations in the area have changed. Earlier this year, the council agreed to amend certain districts  to ‘avoid confusion’ between local and national elections. 

That’s because a review by the Boundary Authority for England’s review shifted the borders of Manchester constituencies at the end of last year (December 2023). The new boundaries were at odds with an earlier ward boundary review carried out by Oldham council. 

The council has introduced a number of small changes. They are not expected to make any material difference to the political landscape, but could change the location of where some residents vote. 

St Mary’s

The biggest change is in St Mary’s, where the council has created a whole new voting district because of the new constituency boundaries. The area runs from Rhodes Bank to Townfield and residents in the area will now be called to vote at the Revive Free Methodist Church on Lees Road. 

Crompton

In Crompton, a new sub-district has been created for the stretch of land North-East to Crompton and Royton Golf Course because the area is now a part of the Oldham West and Royton constituency. It appears there are currently no residents in this area.

Failsworth East

Similarly, residents at Crime Farm and south east of Crime Lake in Failsworth are now a part of their own sub-section because they are now a part of the Ashton-Under-Lyne constituency. But they’ll still be voting for a Failsworth East candidate for Oldham Council at Woodhouses Cricket Club. 

Alexandra

A number of wards will see a change to the location of their usual polling stations. One of the polling stations in Alexandra – previously located in the Children’s Society is moving to Oldham Gold Club.  

Chadderton North

If you voted at Mills Hill Community centre last year, your new polling station will be at Mills Hill School for the 2024 elections. 

Hollinwood 

Hollinwood voters will be heading to the same locations to find their polling station. But for those used to visiting Avenues & Hollins Residents & Tenants Association and Spring Brook Lower School, the polling will now take place in ‘mobile units’ outside those buildings. 

It’s best to check your polling card for the exact location of your polling station.
