Emergency services attended a chemical leak at an address in Oldham this afternoon with several road closures in place.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFR) urged residents living nearby to keep doors and windows closed as they dealt with the orange coloured smoke emanating from a tanker truck.
A spokesperson for (GMFRS) said: “At around 3.15pm five fire engines from Ashton, Heywood, Mossley, Rochdale, Bury fire stations plus the incident command unit from Rochdale fire station attended a suspected chemical incident on West End Street, Oldham.
“Firefighters were working alongside partners to make the area safe with road closures in place. The public were asked to avoid the area at this time and to keep windows and doors closed if nearby.”
The fire service later said there was no longer risk to the public around the area, adding: “The incident we reported on has now been scaled down.
“We would like to thank the public for their understanding while we dealt with this incident.”
