Construction work to install a larger drainage pipe to properties on Church Road in Uppermill begins this week.
The road is set to be closed for approximately four weeks.
The sewer enlargement works are being carried out by Bethell Construction, on behalf of United Utilities, with the pipe having to be installed in the centre of the road.
Church Road from the existing footbridge to Wellmeadow Lane will be closed and there are diversion signs at the Gellfield Lane and Church Road junctions to let drivers know.
Public footpath access won't be affected.
United Utilities say the temporary road closure is 'unavoidable for safety reasons because the road is so narrow' and the work will help reduce the risk of flooding. The company also thanks people for their patience whilst the diversion is in place.
