Oldham recall Cole Geyer for play-offs

Cole Geyer is back at Oldham after Roughyeds activated the hooker’s loan release clause, providing a major boost to the club ahead of the play-offs.

The former Melbourne man has spent the past four months at Huddersfield, featuring in all but one of the Giants’ fixtures since making the loan move in May. 

Geyer heads back to Greater Manchester in fine form, having starred in the Giants' last outing with two tries in their impressive 30-18 upset victory over Leigh Leopards. 

The firm fan favourite made 14 appearances for Oldham before earning his Super League opportunity and now returns with one clear objective. 

“It feels good to be back at Oldham with the lads, and I’m now looking forward to finishing the year strong and hopefully winning it all in a couple of weeks,” said Geyer. 

"I really enjoyed my time the first-time round – the boys made me feel welcome and made it an easy transition to move over from home. Being at Huddersfield was great, I enjoyed the challenge of playing Super League week in week out and I learnt a lot from all the staff. 

"I have kept an eye on the Oldham results and stayed in contact with many of the lads, so it was good to see them finish the year well. I’m confident we can really shake the finals up.” 

Roughyeds boss Alan Kilshaw believes Geyer can make a big impact for Oldham when it matters most.

Explosive out of dummy-half, the hooker gives Roughyeds another attacking weapon as they prepare to face Widnes Vikings in Sunday’s Qualifying Semi-Final at Boundary Park. 

Roughyeds head into the play-offs having secured the club’s highest league finish since dropping out of the Super League in 1997, with Sunday’s winners set for a trip to London Broncos in the Qualifying Final. 

For Geyer, if selected, it will be his first appearance at Boundary Park – and the returning Roughyed will be hoping to make it one to remember as Oldham’s play-off campaign gets underway.
