10-man Curzon out of FA Cup after controversial early red card

A spirited Curzon Ashton crashed out of the FA Cup at home against League One promotion contenders Mansfield Town.

The Nash will be left wondering what might’ve been after a contentious red card for Marcus Poscha.

He blocked a goal-bound shot with his chest on 15 minutes, but referee Thomas Parsons awarded Mansfield a penalty and an early bath for the defender.

Veteran striker Lucas Akins made no mistake from the spot, placing the ball past Bobby Jones for his first goal of the campaign.

The Stags doubled their advantage on the half hour through another old stager, former Irish international Stephen Quinn with a smart first-time effort.

Although Craig Mahon’s side kept plugging away, they found chances limited against Mansfield’s vastly experienced pros.

New Zealand international striker Ben Waine grazed the post in the second half, but soon put the game out of sight when he rifled past Jones from inside the box to make it 0-3 on 73 minutes.

Mansfield put the cap on an efficient performance when their youngest player, 19-year-old Ben Quinn – Stephen’s nephew – scored his first senior goal with four minutes left on the clock to make it 0-4.

The Nash return to National League North action on Wednesday night when they host Kidderminster Harriers at the Tameside Stadium.
