Avro Make A Winning Start To The Decade

North West Counties Premier Division: Avro 1-0 Congleton Town

Avro produced a great win over the weekend as they faced Congleton Town at the Vestacare Stadium as they ran out 1-0 winners.

The home side took lead on six minutes. The ball was fizzed out wide to Joe Rathbone on the right, he ran into the box and fired home to give Avro a deserved lead.
Avro looked to take control and were moving the ball around well, creating several chances which Craig Ellison did well to keep out.

Avro looked comfortable throughout the first half as they controlled the game and held onto the ball well but they struggled to create any clear cut chances.

The second half started with a more even affair and Congleton had a good chance with a freekick just outside of the box but Avro stopper Jordan Lathum gathered the effort comfortably.

There was a shout for a Congleton penalty as Dan Cope looked to have been shoved to the ground by Avro’s Lathum but the referee consulted with the linesman and then gave Avro a freekick.

In the final ten minutes, Avro started to dig in as they tried to protect their one-goal advantage. Congleton went close as Thomas Rutter got his head to a cross but his glancing header went just past the post.

In the final moments of the game Congleton had a great chance as some good play down the left saw a ball whipped in and a player managed to get a shot off but it was blocked on the line.
