Back-to-back wins for GNE

Glossop North End got back to winning ways on Friday with a comfortable 3-0 win away to Prestwich Heys.

In arguably the best half of football Glossop has put together all season, they dominated the first half and went in at the break deservedly two goals in front.

The first goal came in the 19th minute, following sustained pressure from GNE as great work down the left saw full back Aeron Bardsley in behind the Prestwich defence.

He drove to the by-line, holding off pressure from the Prestwich defender, cutting the ball back across the box for striker Tom Lawless to register his sixth league goal of the season with a cool, calm finish with his left foot into the bottom corner, past former Glossop ‘keeper Louis Hood for a deserved lead.

Experienced midfielder Lee Rich then swung in a right footed in swinging corner and on loan forward Lewis Riley beat his marker in the box, defying gravity to hang in the air and power a header home to double Glossop’s advantage.

After a relatively uneventful second half, Glossop’s dominance was finally rewarded just before the end with a thoroughly deserved third goal to cement the three points.

Aeron Bardsley’s out-swinging delivery was well met by substitute Yacin Amarzou, and as his header went goal-wards forward Lewis Reilly turned the ball home to claim his second of the game.

The Hillmen then made it back to-back wins on Tuesday when they came from behind to defeat Colne at the Asgard Engineering Stadium.

Visitors Colne took the lead on the stroke of half-time before Lewis Reilly levelled with his third goal in two games.

Conal Gallaher then completed the turnaround five minutes from time to give GNE all three points.
