Stalybridge Celtic bounced back from their New Year’s Day drubbing on Friday with a 2-0 win away at Atherton Collieries.
After chances went begging for both sides early on, the deadlock was broken on 37 minutes when Ruben Jerome capitalised on an error from Colls ‘keeper Kier Barry, who had vacated his area and found himself in no man’s land, with the forward clipping into the empty net from distance to put his side in front.
This lead was doubled on the hour mark through Andy Scarisbrick, who plucked Ellis Horan’s cross out of the air before smashing into the far-left corner to put Celtic in control.
From there, Jon Macken’s side managed to see the game out and seal a win which saw them move into the NPL West play-off positions.
“I’m absolutely delighted,” said Macken at full-time.
“I thought we were excellent. First 15 minutes I thought they were on top, but after that we were really good, really positive in our play, and worked hard to get that win.
“I’m delighted with the attitude, the performance and the reaction, that just shows the character we’ve got in the team.”
