Denton Golf Club Captain Charles Smith has enjoyed two years in his role due to Covid regulations etc and he was delighted to stage a fantastic Captain’s Weekend of competitions and celebrations at his beloved club.
Charles said: “I would like to thank everyone for their best wishes and making my weekend so enjoyable.
“Being there on Saturday at 7.30am watching everyone tee off I saw some great shots and some ‘not so great shots and the banter on the tee was well worth getting up for.
“I would also like to thank the green keepers for all their hard work setting up the course for both days.
“The talk in the clubhouse on Saturday afternoon was how fast the greens were and how tough the pin positions were. On Sunday the greens were even faster and the pin positions even harder!
Denton GC members have shown their generosity once again as we had a fantastic response to our food bank appeal and I also received £295 in donations which will help make a difference to so many people – so once again thanks for the generosity in making my weekend so memorable.”
The Captain’s Trophy for 36 holes was won by former junior Zak Gregory with 141, two less than Amir Nazir and Darren Greenhough.
The Captain’s qualifying competitions were won by Darren Leith 63 and David Urmston 70.
The no-qualifying winners were Steven Dugdale 72and Nik Coburn 75.
The top lady was Sue Thompson with 74 from Hazel Hathaway 77 and Sheila McDonald 78.
Trevor Taylor was the Past Captain’s winner and the top senior was David Schofield with 39 points.
