Cheadle halt hard-working Hyde

ECB Cheshire County League Premier Division: Hyde 177-7 (40 overs) Cheadle 179-3 (36 overs)

Hyde CC were well beaten by Cheadle, as they finally got their season underway on Saturday.

The Werneth Low men struggled to make the most of a solid start.

After winning the toss skipper Tom Partridge decided to bat first and it looked a good decision as he and David Fisher (28) put on 62 for the first wicket. Shortly after, Partridge went for 30 and Hyde had two new batsmen at the crease with 66 runs on the board.

From what seemed a strong position Hyde slumped to 96-5, with the middle order failing to capitalise on the hard work done by the opening pair and only Cole Turner (35no) and Jason Whittaker (22) showed any resistance, as Hyde closed their innings on 177-7 from 40 overs.

The visitors made a good start, but there was a glimmer of hope when Danny Cranmer and Whittaker struck to reduce Cheadle to 36-2, but 73no from skipper Dan Brown saw Cheadle reach their target for the loss of three wickets.

This weekend Hyde travel to Didsbury.

l The Hyde second XI suffered an anguishing last ball defeat at their Cheadle counterparts.

However, the game will be remembered for a brilliant 107no from 14-year-old second team debutant Keshana Fonseka.

This came just six days after he scored 143no for the third XI in his first competitive game for the club.
