It’ll be the Battle of the Spooners in the Second Qualifying Round of the FA Cup if Hyde United can beat FC United in tomorrow night’s replay.
Hyde boss Nick Spooner will take his side to Southport if they progress, whose son Callum – who captained the Tigers at the end of last season - anchors their midfield.
“It’s gonna be strange, one-off experience if we get through,” said the senior Spooner, who also confirmed that new signing Jake Thompson should be fit for tomorrow’s rematch after being subbed as a precaution on his debut.
A win tomorrow would also signal a quick return to Haig Avenue of Hyde striker Connor Heath, who signed from the Sandgrounders in summer and scored twice in Saturday’s 3-3 draw.
Mossley will also need to negotiate a replay tomorrow night at Whitby Town after drawing 2-2 at home at the weekend.
If David Fish’s team wins in North Yorkshire, they’ll face National League North side Chorley at Seel Park.
Our other local side in the draw, Curzon Ashton, enter the Cup at this stage and also have a home tie.
They’ll take on the winners of tomorrow night’s replay between Lancaster City – who have drawn six of their seven games so far this season – and North West Counties side Barnoldswick Town, who are three divisions below the Nash.
