Dabbers deny Ashton the three points

NPL Premier Division: Nantwich Town 2-2 Ashton United

Jordan Simpson’s and Jack Redshaw’s first half strikes were not enough as the ten men of Nantwich Town bravely battled back to make sure the honours were even at the Optimal Pay Stadium.

After early pressure from the hosts, The Robins took the lead from a Ben Hardcastle corner.

Hardcastle swang the ball in from the left, forcing a good save from The Dabbers’ shot-stopper Andrew Wycherley, but the ball fell to Coates who’s shot was blocked, however the former Macclesfield man Simpson was calm and slotted the ball home at the back post.

Straight from kick off, the hosts’ long ball was blown out of play and the Robins’ attack was started.

James Melhado’s long throw down the right fell perfectly for Hardcastle who attacked down the channel and pulled the ball back for Redshaw, who slotted home from the peanlty spot.

The opening stages of the second 45 started as the opening half closed; both sides trying to assess the ever-changing conditions.

The changing point for the game came around the hour mark, as Nantwich playmaker Ethan Mitchell was shown a second yellow card, only moments after receiving his first for a high foot on Matt Sargent.

A long ball, caught by the wind deceived the Ashton defence, and Shaun Miller latched onto a loose ball and slotted home past the on-rushing Greg Hartley.

And with just seven minutes left on the clock, Nantwich pulled level through Sean Cooke who tapped home from close range after a melee in the box.
