Defender leaves the Tigers

Hyde United favourite Bailey Gooda has departed the club to join Matlock Town on a free transfer.

The 22-year-old central defender began his career with Barnsley before having spells at both Frickley Athletic and Harrogate Town before making the move to the Yorkshire Coast from Harrogate, initially on loan in December 2017.

He signed on a permanent basis for Scarborough and was a key player as Kittrick's side won promotion to the NPL Premier Division at the end of the 2017/18 season.

It will be a blow for Hyde to lose a talented player to a potential promotion rival especially given Hyde’s great start to the season.

Hyde Boss Dave McGurk said: "We are disappointed about Bailey leaving. We wanted him to stay and I tried to persuade him to, but he got a very good offer from Matlock and is going to go straight into their first team.

"I can’t guarantee him or anyone first team football week in week out. It happens in football, we don’t want to lose any player from the squad but we are at the bottom of the food chain in this league. Bailey is a great kid and a good player and we wish him the best of luck at Matlock. We will look to replace him either before Saturday or at some point next week.”

Hyde face a long trip to Whitby Town on Saturday.
