Former Audenshaw School Pupil Lands Contract With Adelaide United

A former Audenshaw School pupil will spend the next two years in South Australia, having penned a new contract with Adelaide United Football Club.

Zach Clough, who came to prominence with Bolton Wanderers in 2016, before securing a reported £3 million move to Nottingham Forest, has agreed a two-year contract extension with the Reds, who currently compete in the Isuzu UTE A-League.

The 27-year-old initially joined the club in February and made 13 appearances between the league and Final's campaign. Clough, who also enjoyed spells with Rochdale, Wigan Athletic and Carlisle United, caught the eye with a great goal against Melbourne City in the semi-final, second leg against Melbourne City - a game they lost 2-1 on aggregate.

Twelve clubs will participate in the UTE A-League 2022/23 season, including Brisbane Roar, Sydney FC and Perth Glory amongst others.

Clough, who endured a few tough years at Forest amid a backdrop of injuries, will now be hoping that the new challenge presents a platform to return to his best. Speaking to the club's official website, Clough said: “I’m very happy to have signed a new contract with Adelaide United, knowing I’ll remain a Red for the next two years.

“From the moment I arrived in Adelaide, I’ve felt welcomed and at home within the squad and the city. 

“The project we’re building with Carl (Veart) is very promising and something I’m excited to be a part of.

“I know the rest of the boys and I were all gutted to have missed out on making the Grand Final last season, but I’m confident that disappointment will fuel our desire to go further next season.”
