Glossop North End Girls pick up trophy

Glossop North End u12 Girls faced a tough challenge against FC Bluestar in the Manchester FA County Cup Final on Saturday having progressed through 5 rounds from teams across Greater Manchester to reach the final.

The Teams had faced each other twice in the league this season with each team coming away with a victory, so it was always going to be a close game. Glossop started strongly and used the pace and skill of their wingers to their advantage.

This paid dividends with 2 goals scored in the first 5 minutes to put Glossop 2-0 up to great applause from the travelling support, Jess Morgan and Tafia Taylor with the goals.

Bluestar are a very skilful team and got a goal back a few minutes later before GNE then went 3-1 when a powerful cross from a corner ended up in the net. The first half finished with another goal for Bluestar – leaving the game very much in the balance at 3-2 at half time.

The second half continued to be hard fought and it was a great advert for girls football with high skill levels, competitiveness but all played in a great spirit.

The Glossop defence were under pressure but managed to repel the Bluestar attack, including a spectacular save from the GNE keeper. Glossop confirmed the win with a great goal from Girl of the Game Tafia Taylor, to take a well deserved 4-2 victory and bring the trophy back to Glossop.
